Jewel Changi Airport gathers the sights and sounds of the world in one place. But when you want a taste of home, head up to Level 5’s Tiger Street Lab for local brews and street food.
In Singapore, it’s common to chug a beer while chowing down street food and what’s known as tze char, the homely local cuisine found at casual Chinese eateries. Now with the opening of Tiger’s first global concept store at Jewel Changi Airport, locals and visitors alike can experience this slice-of-life.
Go straight for the Tiger orchid-infused black lager (from $10)—Tiger’s first seasonal brew inspired by Singapore’s national flower. The easy-drinking beer has faint hints of floral and citrus, and goes well with the menu designed by Timbre X and Keng Eng Kee (KEK) Seafood, a household name when it comes to tze char.
During their six-month partnership with Tiger Street Lab, KEK’s contribution to the menu will include their signatures such as coffee pork ribs ($15) and moonlight horfun or wok-fried seafood flat rice noodles ($10), as well as exclusive dishes such as chicken cutlet in Tiger Lemon Radler sauce ($18). Paul Liew, operations manager and third-generation co-owner says, “We thought this would be a good addition to the menu as crispy lemon chicken cutlet is a common street food in Singapore. Tiger Lemon Radler adds another dimension to the dish, for instance in the way it adds slightly bitter notes to the sauce.”
Apart from good beer and food, Singapore’s talents in fashion, art and design will also be on show. Tiger-motif-themed artworks by local artists dot the space for instance, while merchandise displays feature apparel by local fashion designer Amos Ananda Yeo and Korean visual artist Mina Kwon.
Before you leave, be sure to head for the interactive digital customisation panel just beside the bar. With the press of a few buttons, you can personalise your own limited edition Tiger beer bottle.
