The Other Roof isn’t just The Other Room repackaged into a rooftop bar. In fact, it has taken its predecessor’s spirit of curiosity to a whole new geeky extreme in its deep dive into tea-finished spirits.
The team started by commissioning more than 600 bespoke tea blends to kickstart the endeavour, then took another nine months of R&D—methodically permuting infusion methods, temperatures and spirits—to complete a massive library of 400-odd tea-finished spirits that span rum, gin, grappa and other categories.
The best way to get your bearings, of course, is to get a tasting flight (from $30). For instance, the Reposado flight offers an investigation into the effects of black tea, green tea, and a nutty tisane on Don Julio tequila. The cocktail list (from $22), naturally, leans on tea-inspired classics, such as a raspberry tea-infused gin version of negroni, or an unexpectedly buttery mojito muddled using chocolate and fat-washed tea rum.
And Sunday afternoons are for mimosas. It works on a semi free-flow format—just grab a bottle of bubbly to share ($68 for one, $98 for a pair) then get creative with the cold-steeped teas and fresh-pressed juices at the DIY station. That said, The Other Roof is as much a tea salon as it is a cocktail bar, so if tea’s all you’re after, there are 60-plus blends on the menu, available by the pot and for retail.
