A Taste Of Singapore: JÙN 俊 At Capri By Fraser, China Square

Expect popular local dishes prepared with a modern twist at JÙN 俊, the first Chinese hotel restaurant by Creative Eateries.

Established F&B group Creative Eateries, which owns popular restaurants like Bangkok Jam, Patara Fine Thai Cuisine, and Fremantle Seafood Market, recently unveiled its first Chinese hotel restaurant, JÙN 俊, located at the newly opened Capri by Fraser, China Square. Decked out in a mix of oriental elements and multi-coloured wall art, the 80-seater space features a gorgeous chinoiserie chic style that encompasses traditional as well as modern works by local artists.

On the food front, the restaurant, helmed by group executive chef Derrick Ow, offers a menu that features a variety of popular Chinese and local dishes prepared with a modern twist, such as chilli crab rillette kueh pie tee, and the moonlight wagyu beef hor fun.

Some notable dishes not-to-be-missed include the conventional favourites such as the signature Singapore chilli crab and the golden roast chicken. The former features huge crabs doused in a thick, spicy and slightly sweet chilli sauce, while the latter boasts tender and succulent flesh beneath a layer of crispy golden skin that is roast to perfection. If you’re dining in a group, order a few more side dishes to share—the fragrant homemade ngoh hiang prawn roll, and the chilled homemade egg tofu are excellent— both are executed with flair, offering exceptional flavours and textures.

For those craving more seafood, there are plenty of delicious choices to choose from the menu like the fragrant asari clam, wok-fried with chef’s special blend of spices, curry leaves and lemongrass; and the chef’s special garlic butter crab, offering a rich and fragrant buttery sauce that melds perfectly with the succulent and sweet crab meat. Seafood is definitely a high point here, all prepared using the freshest catch-of-the-day.

If you still have space for some carbs, try the KL seafood Hokkien noodle, a hearty and comforting plate offering nice, smokey flavours. End off a hearty meal with some sweets—the double boiled Tianjin pear, simmered with peach blossom jelly, bitter apricot kernel and red dates is perfect for those craving something light. Alternatively, the baked chempedak crumble, offering rich and creamy chempedak flavours, is sure to provide a satisfying end to your meal.
