We discover the secrets to savouring the splendours of Italy without ever having to leave the country at Buona Terra.

There is just something so incredibly quaint and charming about breaking bread in a hidden colonial bungalow shrouded in lush foliage along Scotts Road— a mere stone’s throw from the bustling shopping mecca known the world over as Orchard Road. It is as if time has stood still. And when one is dining at the award-winning Buona Terra, it is exactly this sense of suspended reality that first washes over you as you savour the splendours of Italy without ever having to leave the county. Everything is slower here. In the blink of an eye, what was supposed to be a light meal will inevitably turn into a proper exquisite fine-dining experience. And rightly so.

Christened with the Michelin sparkle of approval in 2019, they have maintained their star with chef Denis Lucchi’s uncanny ability to constantly turn memories of his youth spent in Italy into colourful sensorial delights that will tickle your taste buds. Two of the chef’s favourite childhood ingredients to use for cooking are the humble porcini mushroom and the valuable ovuli, or Caesar’s mushroom— both present in the restaurant’s signature Aged Wagyu with Fresh Porcini and Italian Ovuli, and quite the mouthful.

Picture this: decadent slices of premium aged Wagyu beef that spent time on the pan— just long enough to release its smoky flavour, but short enough so it doesn’t cook through— along with chargrilled fresh porcini and rare ovuli mushrooms. Adding to the dish’s natural fragrant umami flavour are baby lettuce and a herb sabayon; all nestled under a lavish dusting of parmesan cheese and Manjimup truffles. If this is not already making your mouth water, we really don’t know what would.

We highly recommend setting aside a good three hours at the very least for your meal; just so you can opt for their multi-course offerings and properly enjoy the full Buona Terra experience without having to miss out on anything— like their impressive selection of imported natural wines.

Buona Terra is located at 29 Scotts Road, Singapore 228224. Tel: +65 6733 0209. Opening hours are from 12pm to 3pm, 6pm to 10:30pm on Monday to Friday, 6pm to 10:30pm on Saturday.
