Newly opened in February, S L A T E. is the latest addition to the row of stylish eateries and restaurants that line Purvis Street. Inspired by its namesake – the sedimentary rock that is formed with layers of minerals, S L A T E. aspires towards infusing familiar Asian flavours into innovative recreations of classic well-loved dishes.
Designed in cool tones of grey and blue, slide into welcoming plush sofa booths while a self-curated playlist of indie folk-pop including Kings of Convenience and Tame Impala gets your palate warmed up.
Sink into comfort food such as the Side Ways Omelette (only available during the day), a stellar twist on the classic breakfast eggs. Pan-fried to an even golden brown, each slice reveals generous fresh lumps of top-grade blue swimmer crab coated in luscious smoked crab fat within its folds, and topped with crunchy tobiko for extra oomph. Served with a refreshing side salad, house-pickled radish and house-made sourdough, don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty with this one and tear off chunks of bread to sop up all the umami crab juices.
S L A T E. is also a great spot for fans of all-day brunch. Try their pasta such as the Oxtail Ragout Rigatoni. The pasta is cooked al dente, and coated with a rich tomato and meat stew. For drinks, enjoy a cuppa after your meal with their hand-drip coffee or an iced cappuccino.
Menus change regularly, which is a good excuse to keep coming back for more.
